Campaign against FGM and other harmful traditional practices

Functional Literacy

This component ensures that women know how to read and write in their local languages, and receive a wide range of information on a variety of pertinent issues such as health, clean water and good sanitation, the importance of girls’ education, nutrition, protection of girls and women from harmful practices such as FGM and the national law banning it, human rights, and civil responsibility to guide them in making informed decisions about their lives, their community and their country.

As part of our approach, the beneficiaries share knowledge and skills acquired during the literacy lessons with families and friends who are not enrolled in the program so that, ultimately, the entire community benefits and can therefore move forward together strategically in advancing women’s rights and reducing gender inequality.
