INTRODUCTORY NOTE BY THE DIRECTOR OF BAFROW

After its establishment in 1991, BAFROW committed the first couple of years to translating its mission and vision into programs and approaches, conceptualizing areas for program interventions, and building partnerships with the Government, NGOs, International Organizations, other institutions and individuals with similar interests, and grass root communities. It was also during this time that its ten-year program activities were developed with partner collaboration through dialogue, consultations, and research work. Once pilot implementations began, outcomes of the programs were shared with partners through workshops and seminars, using feedback to enhance on the process leading to the final design of its plans and programs.

BAFROW's ten-year action plan consisted of the following four program areas, designed to run simultaneously:

  • Women's health
  • Women's productivity and economic empowerment
  • Women and the environment, and
  • Children and adolescents' development

Over the ensuing years, experience taught BAFROW the importance of addressing these four program areas both individually and collectively, as the linkages between them could cause one area to influence another, whether positively or negatively. Thus BAFROW's strategy was adapted to strengthen the synergism between the different program areas, using a holistic, multi-dimensional, and multi-sectoral approach to achieve good health, empowerment, productivity, and environment for all, but especially women and children. More of BAFROW's approach and program areas have been outlined in this site.

BAFROW's plans for the future are to continue working with communities in its selected program areas, and to complement Government in its efforts to create a better environment in which people can live a much better, empowered, and healthier life. Considering the sharing and exchanging of best practices one of the most integral tools for development, the organization will also continue to share its best practices with partners, which is one of the objectives of this website.

BAFROW wishes to thanks all its partners, particularly those who have made this website possible, and look forward to a continued, enhanced and productive collaboration between our organizations.
